First and Last of the Sea Serpents
Once there was a sea serpent named Iceberg Skeleton Sea Rome. One day Iceberg was
sliding around in the water in his room. Suddenly, Cineroe came swimming into the room
and shouted, “Have you heard? The oldest sea serpents (including Skeleton, who was
the first sea serpent) have said that you will be the first and the last of the sea serpents in
a way.” The next day all the sea serpents kept an eye on Iceberg. They were hoping that
if danger jumped out at that moment Iceberg would be at their side to be sure they would
live. Then Skeleton himself swam slowly over to Iceberg and said in an old croaky voice,
“you shall go away. You will be the last. Go away. If you die then all sea serpents will be
dead forever and ever.” Iceberg swam slowly away. Tears rolled down his cheek. He
might never ever see this town again. He said to himself, if there is life after life, I will live it
here, if this still is a town. Then he thought maybe, just for hope, I’ll make my last name
Skeleton and my middle name Sea Rome. He swam away and he went up to face the
dangers ahead.
Not too far away from the town was a great deep, deep hole. It lasted hundreds of miles.
No sea serpents have been known to live through the crossing. Iceberg began crossing
slowly. He heard a loud noise and he could see bubbles up behind him as if something
was swimming very fast his way. He began swimming forward as quick as he could and
then he dropped down suddenly and a weird creature swam right past him. The creature
yelled out a big howl. It seemed to be calling for other creatures somewhere out there.
Iceberg swam very fast across the deep hole. He made it.
He looked around, surprised he had lived. He kept swimming on. It looked way weirder
than the town he was born in. The current was saying something. He listened harder. It
said, “this way, this way, this way, this way.” The current suddenly changed directions
and he let himself ride the current.
The current led to a big, big hole in the side of a cliff. The cliff seemed to be leading to
land. Suddenly the weird creature was by him again with a pack following it. The pack
swam after him. He swam faster and faster, and then he dropped back, like he had done
before. The pack kept swimming on in the direction of his town. He settled down for the
night not knowing what to do. The creatures didn’t seem like they could do any harm to a
town of sea serpents.
Next morning he swam back to make sure his town was okay. He heard the sound of
panic rising over the waves. The creatures came back, but this time there were
hundreds. He had to swim really quickly. They were driving him towards his town. Then
he flipped around and faced the thousands of creatures. He knew there would be no way
to escape. They surrounded him every way, up, down, and from every side. They went
closer and closer and closer to him, until they grabbed him and up went the leader of the
weird creatures. The leader was young. He said, “Now I shall kill you, so there will be no
more sea serpents.” He struck Iceberg and killed him, and from then on, Iceberg called
himself Ikea. In this land, with the power of the Real Jungle Ocean of the Underground,
there are spirits. Spirits of all sizes and shapes and all ages. But you are still solid for a
while being a spirit. You do have life after life in the Real Jungle. Ikea was a spirit.
After he got his senses back, Ikea swam quickly, but it took half the day to get across the
deep hole. The sound stopped once he got there. He went in, the town was deserted at
the first look. But then, he saw, on the floor of the ocean, there lie thousands of sea
serpents’ bodies. But there was still a cry rising over the waves. A sea serpent was alive.
He followed the cry, up through the buildings. The farther he got the more elegant they
became until he was standing in front of the sea serpents’ castle. The cry was coming
from deep in the sea serpent castle. He held his breath and went in. He swam through
the amazing towers until he came to the very heart of the building. There, on the ground,
lay a very old sea serpent. At first he couldn’t tell which. But then, he realized it wasn’t just
an old sea serpent, it was Skeleton. Ikea swam quickly to Skeleton’s side. Skeleton said
slowly, in an old croaky voice, “I was right, but now you should go up to the surface. You
are a spirit. Spirits, no matter what creature they are, breathe air. And some change
shapes and will always be able to change shapes.”
Ikea swam up and stopped holding his breath. It felt weird to be breathing air, but he
would have to get used to it sooner or later. Once he was up, his short stub legs were
extending longer into hands. And his short stub feet were growing longer and growing
talons. In between his fingers was growing clear black silk. His scaly skin was turning
softer and turning into black fur. His tail shrunk so little and disappeared. His great big
head and big round eyes were changing. They were getting furrier, more oval. His sharp
teeth were getting smaller, but even sharper. He was a bat. He could change shapes
anytime he wanted. He flew through the tall trees (sea serpents were supposed to marry
lizards to make a new species because the sea serpent species was dying out). He
married a tree lizard. Their child was the new species: THE DINOSAURS!
The End,
but not for long…
